MNP or MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILITY is an offer that allows the customers to switch over from one network to other mobile network without changing your mobile number.
Local mobile number portability firstly started in India in Haryana state on Nov 25,2010.
With the help of mobile number portability you can change from one mobile network to another without changing your current mobile number
- It was finally spreaded all over India on Jan 20, 2011.
- With MNP you can port your cell number from current operator to another without changing your current cell number.

Your mobile balance of current operator willl not be available.
So consume your mobile balance before porting.
Procedure :-
- Get an 8 (UPC) unique porting code by sending an SMS “PORT <XXXXXXXXXX>” to 1900.
- Approach your nearest mobile operator, Submit your document like ID PROOF, PHOTO
- Wait For SMS from the operator regarding the information of porting started.
- Get new Sim from mobile operator.
- You will get an operator message regarding the information that when will your new SIM be activated.
- The entire process normally takes 5-6 working days.
Guidelines :-
- For prepaid users, balance will not saved for new mobile no operator.
- Post-Paid users must clear their all dues, else porting request will be rejected.
- You can use mobile no portability for a number from CDMA to GSM or GSM to CDMA
- Porting is alloweded only once in 3 months.
With MNP Process you can shift to another operator of your choice, but keep your old number. Best is, you don’t have to go through the trouble of informing all your friends & family that your number has changed - it stays the same.
